Neighbourhood Watch Australasia (NHWA) is launching ‘Speak Up’ at an event to be held at Parliament House Northern Territory.
NHWA CEO Ingrid Stonhill said ‘Speak Up’ is an educational resource for Indigenous community members and other community members where English is not their first language. ‘Speak Up’ is designed to enable people who need help, to know how and when to call emergency services.
‘Speak Up’ has been developed as part of a coordinated trial by Neighbourhood Watch Australasia to build community capacity and resilience by knowing how and when to report instances of crime.
“It promotes positive engagement with Police and is anticipated that Northern Territory Police, working with community partners, will roll out this education program across the Northern Territory,” said Ingrid Stonhill.
Northern Territory Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Peter Chandler said he is thrilled to see ‘speak up’ launched in the Territory and is confident it will be a useful resource for Police.
“We take law and order very seriously and this initiative is one way schools and communities can get involved in driving down crime. I welcome ‘Speak Up’ and look forward to seeing it implemented across the Territory,” Mr Chandler said.
Commissioner of Police Reece Kershaw, believes ‘Speak Up’ is a valuable educational resource for communities and will assist Police in their ability to respond and develop a more resilient Northern Territory.
The launch of Neighbourhood Watch Australasia’s ‘Speak Up’ education campaign will be held at Parliament House. The event will be officiated by The Hon Peter Chandler MLA, Minister for Police Fire and Emergency Services, Mrs Natasha Griggs, Federal Member for Solomon and an official Northern Territory Police representative.
‘Speak Up’ is developed by Neighbourhood Watch Australasia in collaboration with Indigenous community members and Northern Territory Police.
